Monique was born and raised on the Navajo reservation. Monique received their bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology from the University of New Mexico. Prior to beginning their graduate studies, they worked for a nonprofit organization where they traveled to rural communities to work with elementary, middle, and high school students to increase their knowledge of STEM studies and careers. During their visit to these communities Monique took note of the need to create safe spaces for young people to share their experiences as well as the great need to join the movement to raise awareness and combat the stigma surrounding mental health. For this reason, Monique decided to enroll in a graduate Social Work program due to its holistic approach to wellness.

After Monique obtained their Master of Social Work degree (with a focus on Mental Health and Trauma) from the University of Denver they practiced as a substance abuse clinician. As a Licensed Master of Social Work Monique takes a holistic approach to wellness and is dedicated to healing and building individuals, in addition to creating a safe space for individuals of all ages to share their experiences through having courageous conversations.
